Season Hunting Leases
Alex Hartman poses with an outstanding whitetail taken on WSI hunting lease near San Angelo
Wildlife Systems, Inc. operates Texas hunting leases. We lease land for a
variety of game animals, including white-tailed deer, mule deer, dove, quail,
turkey, and waterfowl. Wildlife Systems, Inc. enrolls all of the properties into
a wildlife management program which usually includes wildlife surveys, recorded
harvest data, and certain harvest management strategies, which ensures that our
hunting leases are well managed.
Our most popular Texas hunting leases are
general hunting leases that allow the members to hunt a variety of game animals.
Several of the properties have facilities in place while others have water and
electric hookups only. These hunting leases generally run from $3,000-$4,000 per
gun. Inquire on availability.
Harrell Ranch Hunting Lease
Hunting leases like this one rarely come available. The well known
Harrell Ranch, originally settled by pioneer Charles Goodnight, is 28,000 acres
of wildlife paradise situated in the Texas Panhandle, some 20 miles southwest of
Claude, not far from Amarillo. This property has not been hunted the last
two years but the Harrell family recently decided to offer this special place to
the right group of hunters.
- Available Game – Mule deer, whitetail deer, Rio Grande
wild turkey, bobwhite and blue quail, free range aoudad sheep, wild hogs,
dove, waterfowl, and varmints. This variety of game is rarely found at one
location and makes this an especially unique hunting property. Big desert
mule deer are the premier animal here and the Harrell Ranch has a reputation
of producing some of the finest Panhandle mule deer, including a 198" monster a few years ago. A recent tour of the ranch by WSI owner Greg Simons resulted in Simons seeing over 50 mule deer from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There have also been some huge whitetails taken on this property and the ranch owner has a shed that has over 90" on one side. Most of the whitetails inhabit the river bottom country. A large population of aoudad sheep roam the ranch which provides for year around recreation. Large numbers of turkey roost in the cottonwoods along the Red River. Waterfowl by the droves (ducks, geese, and sand hill cranes) are occasionally thick on this place, especially when the ranch's playa lakes have water. Dove hunting can at times be hot, either over ponds or on the milo and wheat fields on the property.
- Harvest Quota – Lease allowances provide an annual harvest of the following: 8 quality mule deer, plus several cull bucks; 6 quality whitetail bucks; up to 10 mature aoudad rams; 30 turkey gobblers; standard bag limits of other game birds; and no limit on hogs and predators.
- Lodging – A historic five-bedroom lodge is available for use. Additionally, Harrell Ranch owners have agreed to spend $15,000 - $20,000 appointing the lodge with various amenities and will allow the hunting lessee to provide input on how they would like to see it outfitted. Once furnished, you can bet that this will provide lodging that you rarely find on a hunting lease. This lodge has phone service capabilities.
- Description of Ranch – This 28,000-acre property is situated on the Red River with several miles of river running through the ranch. Topographical features along the river drainage are extremely rugged and rocky, providing breathtaking views. As you move away from the river you transition into intermediate type country with rolling draws and canyons. This Ranch also includes some flat top areas which are where an approximately 450 acres of wheat and milo are located. This is a stunning property, full of panoramic views and settings.
- Other Interesting Features – The ranch is extremely well watered with approximately 50 trough type water locations, not to mention many different springs or seep type areas in various canyons, as well as the river itself. Several miles of perimeter border the famous Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Landowner is willing to provide several corn feeders along the river for whitetail hunting and will keep them filled as long as lessee pays for the feed. Ranch is easily accessed from Amarillo and is a short 20-minute drive from the Amarillo airport.
- Price – Lease price is based on $4.00 per acre for a one-year lease. Landowner wants one group or one company to lease entire Ranch. Will not divide into multiple parcels. Payments are based on 25% due upon agreement, 25% due by July 1, and balance due by October 15, 2008.
This is a perfect set up for a corporate type group. With the variety
of game, aesthetic landscape appeal, and lodging, the property has a lot to
offer for someone looking for year around opportunities. For further
