Wildlife Consulting Services

One of the features of WSI that makes us unique among many of our competitors is our strong wildlife background.  Our staff is led by well known wildlife biologist Greg Simons who brings well over 20 years of professional experience to the table.  His extensive background in the Texas wildlife and hunting arena along with his networking capabilities allows WSI a position in the market place that few consultants possess.

Wildlife Management Plans

One of our most common consulting practices that we provide is written wildlife management plans (WMP).  Some of these WMP’s are unique to specific needs such as requirements for Managed Lands Deer Permits or for those landowners who wish to enroll their property under a “wildlife exemption” as opposed to a traditional ag exemption so that they can maintain their ag valuation.  Prices for these plans typically range from $1,000 - $1,500 depending upon circumstances.  Additionally, a 65 cent per mile charge will be assessed for travel from San Angelo to site location and back to San Angelo.  These WMP’s typically include one site inspection and personal consultation of 3 – 6 hours during site inspection.

Deer Surveys

Each year we conduct numerous helicopter deer surveys around the state for white-tailed deer and mule deer.  Survey packages include a detailed report with estimated deer densities, sex ratios, fawn production, relative age classes of bucks, and antler quality classification of bucks.  Reports also include recommended harvest strategies for helping to ensure that goals for herd performance are met.  Price for survey services typically run from $750 - $1,500 plus 65 cents per mile round trip from San Angelo.  Landowner also incurs cost of helicopter rental which will normally run $300 - $350 per hour for a 2 seater, and we normally fly approximately 2,000 – 3,000 acres per hour if we are conducting a “total” survey.

Enterprise Plans

Our enterprise analysis or enterprise plans are well suited for fee based hunting programs where the landowner needs an expert independent analysis or review of their program.  We look at pricing, marketing, staffing, risk management, and other quality control issues.  Since WSI is one of the largest and most successful hunting enterprises in the United States, we bring a huge amount of experience to the table in this area.  This package includes site inspection, 3 – 6 hour personal consultation, with ensuing written report.  Price for such package is $1,000 - $2,000 depending upon circumstances, plus 65 cent per mile round trip charge.

Deer Breeder Inspection

The deer breeding industry has mushroomed in recent years and Texas now has well over 1,000 registered breeders.  For those individuals who wish to apply for a Deer Breeder’s Permit, a pen inspection and letter of endorsement is required from a non-TPWD wildlife biologist.  We charge $500 for pen inspection and letter of endorsement, plus 65 cents per mile round trip fee.
