Play-By-Play Hunt Report

April 22, 2008 – Sorry that I allowed considerable time to pass since our last Play-By-Play during the early portion of the spring gobbler season. It has been busy over the last few weeks and we have been dealing with a host of technical changes with our website, most of which is not visible to you, but none-the-less has consumed a fair bit of time. We are completely finished with all of our spring turkey hunts and I am pleased to report that our season finished stronger than I anticipated. Make no mistake, it was a difficult season relative to calling birds in the traditional fashion, but when it was all said and done, we did wind up with a respectable season. Normally, our average harvest rate runs about 1.8 birds harvested per hunter in an average season, and this year we finished with an overall average of 1.4 birds per hunter, including those birds that were missed. Our kill percentage may have been down, but the size of our birds was impressive. We killed many birds with spurs over 1 ¼” including our all-time WSI record of 2”, which would crowd the state record if officially measured. Additionally, we have a bumper crop of jakes, so next year should see a bountiful supply of harvestable birds.

Please keep us in mind if you would like to look at any off season exotic hunts. We now have considerable more nilgai hunts to offer and more flexible time schedules, so you may want to take a look at that. We still have some very good dates available on whitetail hunts as well. Best thing to do is simply call us if there is a particular type of hunt you are looking for, or maybe you would like for us to give you some ideas.

Thanks,

Greg Simons
