Spring Turkey
Wildlife Systems offers two different turkey hunting packages. Our most common turkey hunting package is an all-inclusive arrangement that provides you with guide (2×1), meals, lodging, airport shuttle (conditional), and game care. Some of our packages are 2-bird packages, while others include 1 bird.
We also offer a limited number of “unassisted” turkey hunts where hunters essentially do their own thing. On most of these hunts, hunters either camp out or stay in town in a motel. This is a no frills deal, but the hunting is great, with hunters enjoying high success hunts.
Licenses are unlimited, over the counter licenses, where no drawing or lottery is required. Nonresident spring turkey hunting licenses are $126, unless you purchased a general non-resident license during the previous fall, and then you only pay for a $7.00 Upland Bird Stamp Validation. There are no age restrictions in Texas, and youth licenses are only $7.00 for a Texas hunting license. You can simply fill out our Hunter Profile form and send that back to us your license fees, and we will have your hunting license waiting for you, or you can procure the license yourself at TPWD.
Our Texas spring turkey hunting season essentially runs from the third weekend of March through the second weekend of May. Our southern Texas turkey hunting zone starts two weeks prior to our north zone and ends two weeks earlier than the north zone.
S Ranch Lodge – This camp features a 4 bedroom, 4 bath facility, where we hunt multiple properties, totaling approximately 25,000 acres. This is a 2-bird package which includes meals, lodging, guide (2×1), and game care, and is priced at $2,250 per turkey hunter. The lodge is relatively new with nice furnishings, big screen TV. and satellite dish. Hunters fly into San Angelo, where we can pick up and drop off at no additional expense. This is a great perennial destination for Rio Grande turkey hunting, and is located a few miles north of San Angelo.
Chaparrosa Ranch – This sprawling 80,000 acre ranch, located between Crystal City and La Pryor, is a hot spot for turkey hunting. In addition to fabulous hunting, Chaparrosa also features a 10 bedroom, huge lodge featuring nice amenities and luxuries, including a swimming pool for enjoying a cool dip on a warm day. This 3 day, 3 night package is $1,750 and includes 1 turkey, 1 feral hog, and 1 javelina. An additional turkey can be taken for $525. We only harvest approximately 20 birds here annually. Hunters should fly into San Antonio where they need to rent a car and drive to the ranch, approximately 2 hours away.
H. Yturria Ranch – This legendary ranch is steeped in South Texas history and lore. Between each of the 3 South Texas H. Yturria Divisions, our spring turkey hunting here encompasses approximately 25,000 acres, and is supported by 3 nice camps. Our main camp is Punta del Monte and is built with an African theme comprised of 6 private chalets, large dining/lounging facility, and large fire ring representing the centerpiece of the camp. This 2.5 day, 3 night package is priced at $2,250 based on 2×1 guide, and includes meals, lodging, and 2 gobblers. A third bird can be taken for an additional $525. Javelina, hogs, nilgai antelope, and various other exotic game can be added into the package for an additional fee. Hunters can fly into Harlingen and airport shuttle is available for $100 per vehicle per trip.
We also have access to a few other other properties for spring turkey hunting, but the above options represent our primary options. Call us at 325-655-0877 for other possibilities.
